If the identity questions did not clear the check, or you could not be asked them, you will be asked for a photo of a government-issued ID. The pending screen asking the applicant to upload a photo of a government issued ID

What we accept

  • State-issued driver’s license
  • State-issued identification card
  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Resident Alien or Green Card
  • U.S. Military ID
Your ID must be current. An expired document cannot be used, however recently it expired.
If you are using a driver’s license, include the back. The barcode on that side is what we read. A photo of the front alone will not complete the check.

Taking a photo that works

  • Lay the ID on a flat, dark surface and fill the frame with it.
  • Make sure all four corners are visible.
  • Avoid glare — angle away from overhead lights rather than using flash.
  • Check that the small print and the barcode are readable before you send it.
You can select more than one file, which is how you send the front and back together. Each file can be up to 20 MB. Submit stays greyed out until you have chosen at least one file.

After you submit

The Checking your ID progress message shown after an ID is submitted The check runs immediately. Stay on the page while it finishes — do not refresh. If it clears, your application continues. If it does not, you will be asked to call us so a representative can review it with you.

What we do with your ID

We keep a copy on your account. It is held as part of the identification record federal law requires us to keep. See how we protect your data.

If you cannot complete this

Call us with your application reference number. Your application closes 30 days after you applied if the check is never completed, and you may receive a Statement of Credit Denial, Termination, or Change explaining that.
