# Why UAS services your account

> Who Universal Account Servicing is, and why your payments go to us rather than the business you bought from.

If you were not expecting to hear from a company called Universal Account Servicing, you are in the
right place. Nothing has gone wrong.

## Three parties, one purchase

<Steps>
  <Step title="You bought something and financed it">
    From a retail seller, a clinic, a school, or another business. They offered financing at the
    point of sale rather than asking for the full amount up front.
  </Step>

  <Step title="A lender funded it">
    A bank or credit union, or the seller itself, depending on the arrangement. Your agreement names
    them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="UAS services it">
    We send your statements, take your payments, keep your balance, and answer your questions. That
    is what a **third-party billing service provider** does.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Your payments go to us because we are the ones keeping the account. The business you bought from
does not handle billing.

## This is not a debt sale

Your account has not been sold to a collection agency, and nothing has gone wrong with it. UAS was
servicing it from the start — your welcome letter, which came with your contract documents,
introduced us.

## What about UGA Finance?

**UGA Finance** is a finance program that lets retail sellers offer financing at the point of sale.
If you financed a purchase in a store or a clinic, your contract may have come through it. UAS
administers that program and services the accounts.

You may see either name. Both are legitimate, and they are not two separate debts.

## What we can and cannot do

| We can                                            | We cannot                                |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Take your payment and apply it | Change your rate or your terms |
| Tell you your balance, payoff figure and due date | Resolve a problem with what you bought |
| Send you copies of what you signed | Decide whether to approve more credit |
| Log a dispute and investigate it | Return your goods or cancel your service |

For anything about the goods or services themselves, start with the business you bought from — see
[Opening a support request](/getting-help/opening-a-support-request).
