# If you see "Validation Failed"

> What that error means, and why it needs a phone call rather than another attempt.

**This one is usually our fault, not yours.**

"Validation Failed" means the date of birth or Social Security number you entered does not match
what we have on file. In most cases the details you entered are correct and our record is wrong —
often a typo made when the account was set up.

## Trying again will not help

There is no way to correct our record from the sign-in screen, so repeating the attempt with the
same information will produce the same result. If you have already tried twice, stop and call us.

  We can check what is on file, correct it, and get you signed in.
</Card>

## Before you call

Have your **Account Number** to hand if you have it, and be ready to confirm your identity another
way. We may ask you to send documentation if a date of birth or name needs correcting — see
[Changing your personal information](/your-information/changing-your-information).
