# Your Access Code and account security

> Why there is no password to change, what to do if you think your code is compromised, and what we never store.

**You do not have a password.** You have an **Account Number** and an **Access Code**, both assigned
by us. The sign-in screen says *Password/Access Code* because businesses that offer financing use
the same page, and they do have usernames and passwords. Consumers do not.

That is why there is no "change password" option — and here is why that is not the problem it
sounds like.

## Three things protect your account

Neither your Account Number nor your Access Code can be changed online. Instead of a password you
choose, your account is protected by three things:

1. Your **Account Number** — assigned, and not guessable
2. Your **Access Code** — assigned, numeric, and long
3. A **security question** — your date of birth, or the last four digits of your Social Security
   Number

Someone would need all three to get in. That last one is what makes a lost statement much less
dangerous than it would otherwise be.

## If your security software flags it

Password managers and browsers sometimes warn that a saved password is weak or has appeared in a
breach. Because your Access Code is numeric and assigned rather than chosen, that warning is
unlikely to clear no matter what you do.

If you would still prefer a new one, we can issue it — call us.

## What we never store

Even if someone did get into your account, your payment details are not there to take.

## If you think someone has used your account

Call us straight away. If you believe the account itself was opened fraudulently, that is a
different process — see [Opening a support request](/getting-help/opening-a-support-request), which
covers identity theft.
