# Co-applicant and cosigner access

> How a joint applicant, cosigner, or co-buyer signs in and what they can do.

If you signed the contract as a joint applicant, cosigner, or co-buyer, you have **the same access
and the same authority as the primary account holder**. You can pay, set up AutoPay, view
statements, and speak to us about the account.

## Signing in

You received your own copy of the contract document packet after signing, including a welcome letter
with the details you need. Sign in the same way as anyone else — see
[How to sign in](/signing-in/how-to-sign-in).

<Warning>
  **The security question asks about the primary account holder, not you.**

  When you reach the verification step, you will be asked for the primary account holder's date of
  birth, or the last four digits of *their* Social Security Number. Entering your own will fail.

  This surprises most co-applicants. It is not an error.

If you do not have the primary account holder's details and cannot ask them,
[contact us](/getting-help/contacting-uas) — we can verify you another way.

## What you can do

The same as the primary account holder. There is no reduced or read-only version of co-applicant
access: you are a party to the contract, so you have full authority on the account when you deal
with us.

## This is different from an authorized user

A **co-applicant** signed the contract and is responsible for the debt. An **authorized user** is
someone the account holder later permits to act on the account — a family member handling payments,
for example — without being a party to the contract.
