# Ways to pay

> Pay online, by phone, or by mail — and which is fastest.

Three ways, and they are not equally fast.

## Online

Sign in to uPortal360 and select **Make A Payment**. You can pay your minimum, your past-due amount,
or any other amount you choose.

If you would rather not remember each month, [set up AutoPay](/autopay/enrolling) — it is the most
reliable way to stay current.

## By phone

Call us during business hours and an agent can take a payment.

<Warning>
  **A customer service fee may apply when an agent takes your payment.** Paying in uPortal360 is
  free. If you can use the portal, use the portal.

  Phone is still the right route if your payment is
  [above your online limit](/payments/payment-limits), or if you cannot get into your account.
</Warning>

Three things you are entitled to on that call:

* **You are told the fee before the payment is taken**, not afterwards on the receipt.
* **You can decline it** and pay through a channel that has no fee instead.
* **The fee is itemized** as its own line on your receipt, separate from the payment.

<Info>
  **An automated phone payment is not an agent-assisted payment.** If you pay through the automated
  phone system without an agent, that is treated as self-service and no customer service fee
  applies. A fee cannot be charged only because a payment arrived by telephone.
</Info>

## Paying by mail

Make your check payable to **Universal Account Servicing, LLC** and write your **Account Number** on
the memo line.

| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **With your statement coupon** | Use the return envelope and address printed on your statement |
| **Without a coupon**           | Universal Account Servicing, LLC<br />PO Box 12027<br />Parkville, MO 64152  |
| **Paying from Canada**         | A different address — see [Paying from Canada](/payments/paying-from-canada) |

Allow time for the post and for processing. A mailed payment is not credited the day you send it.

<Warning>
  **Never mail cash.** Send a check. Cash sent by post cannot be traced and cannot be credited to
  your account if it does not arrive.
</Warning>

<Info>
  **Your check may be processed electronically.** When you send a check, you authorize us either to
  use the details on it to create a one-time electronic transfer from your account, or to process it
  as a check. If it is converted, the money leaves your account the same way a debit would, and your
  bank will not return the paper check to you.
</Info>

<Note>
  **Do not post-date a check.** A post-dated check will not be deposited before the date written on
  it — but it also does not schedule a payment. If you want a payment on a particular future date,
  [schedule it in uPortal360](/payments/one-time-payment) instead.
</Note>

## If someone else is paying for you

A relative or friend can make a payment on your account. They will need to be able to identify the
account, and we will record the payment as coming from them.

We will confirm to them only that the payment was received and how much it was. **We will not tell
them your balance, your payment history, or whether you are behind** — that is yours, not theirs.

A third party's card or bank account cannot be saved for AutoPay unless that person authorizes it
themselves.

## Paying early, or paying off

**There is no penalty for paying early**, on any of these accounts. You can pay more than your
minimum, or pay the balance off entirely, whenever you want.

If you are paying off to meet a [promotional deadline](/promotional-offers), check your current
payoff amount in uPortal360 first rather than paying the figure on your statement — see
[Finding your promotion details](/promotional-offers#finding-your-promotion-details).

## What happens next

See [When your payment posts](/payments/when-payments-post) for timing and what each status means.
