# Paying from Canada

> Three ways to pay a US-dollar account from Canada, and which one to choose.

UAS services accounts for consumers in the United States and Canada. Your contract is in **US
dollars**, so wherever possible, pay in US dollars — then the amount we receive is the amount you
owe, with no exchange-rate surprise between the day you send it and the day it is processed.

## Option 1 — A US bank account, if you have one

If you hold an account at a US financial institution — through a cross-border banking program, or
any other US bank — you are treated exactly like a domestic customer. You can pay online, set up
AutoPay, or write a check on that account.

This is the easiest and lowest-cost route.

<Warning>
  **A Canadian account that holds US dollars is not a US bank account.** To pay online or use
  AutoPay you need a **US routing number**. A US-dollar account at a Canadian bank does not have one.
</Warning>

## Option 2 — Mail a US-dollar check

Write the check from any US-dollar account — a US bank account is best, but a US-dollar account at a
Canadian bank also works for a mailed check.

* Make it payable to **Universal Account Servicing, LLC**
* Write your **Account Number** on the memo line
* Mail it to:

> **Universal Account Servicing, LLC**
> 603 East Street STE 301
> Parkville, MO 64152

<Warning>
  **Do not use the PO Box for payments from Canada.** The PO Box on your statement is an automated
  bank lockbox. It processes domestic checks and coupons and cannot handle an international item.
  Send Canadian payments to the street address above instead.
</Warning>

## Option 3 — A Canadian-dollar check

We can accept one, but it is the least reliable option:

* The US-dollar amount we receive depends on the exchange rate **on the day the check is processed**,
  which may be several days after you mail it.
* That usually means the converted amount does not match your payment exactly, leaving a small over-
  or under-payment to reconcile next cycle.
* International collection items take longer to clear.

If this is your only option, **round up** rather than down, and allow plenty of time.

## Timing

International mail can take **7–14 business days**. Add processing time on top. If your due date is
close, this is the wrong route — pay online if you can.

<Note>
  **Do not post-date a check.** We will not deposit a check before the date written on it, so
  post-dating does not get your payment in earlier — and it does not schedule one either. If you
  need a payment on a particular date, schedule it in uPortal360 from a US bank account.
