# If your account leaves UAS servicing

> What it means when UAS stops servicing your account, how to find out who has it now, and what to expect from a collection agency such as Omega RMS.

When your account leaves UAS servicing, **UAS stops billing you for it.** Statements, payments and
questions go to whoever holds the account next. Leaving UAS does not erase what you owe.

## Why an account leaves UAS

| What happened | Where the account goes |
| - | - |
| The company that owns your contract moves it to another servicer | The new servicer. We may send you a letter naming them and how to reach them. |
| The account is in default | The company that owns your contract decides what happens next. The account is returned to it, or placed with a collection agency. UAS usually places these accounts with Omega RMS, though the contract owner can choose another route. |
| A bankruptcy filing, the account holder's death, or a fraud finding | UAS reviews the account first. Servicing can end afterward. |

Your agreement defines **default**. Check it for the exact terms. The company that owns your
contract, not UAS, decides whether an account is in default.

## Who Omega RMS is

Anything Omega RMS sends or says is from a debt collector, and it says so. The company named on your
notice is the one collecting. Another collection agency may contact you on Omega RMS's behalf. Its
name will be on the notice.

## What a collection agency sends first

A debt collector has to tell you in writing what it is collecting. The notice names the creditor,
states the amount, and tells you how to dispute the debt and by what date. Read it as soon as it
arrives.

## What to do

**1. Read the notice**

Check the creditor's name and the amount against your agreement and your last statement from us.

**2. Dispute it in writing if something is wrong**

Send it to the address on the notice, before the date it gives. Keep a copy.

**3. Use the payment details on the notice**

Pay the company named on the notice, in the way the notice says. If you are not sure who holds
your account, call us first.

**4. Tell the collection agency if you want it to stop contacting you**

Use the contact details on its notice. If your account is with Omega RMS, you can also call
[(888) 378-7447](tel:+18883787447).

## Not sure it is real?

Do not give anything out on a call or message you are unsure about. Call us at
[(888) 233-2302](tel:+18882332302), Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central. An agent can tell
you whether your account has left UAS and who holds it now. Then check the company on
[NMLS Consumer Access](https://www.nmlsconsumeraccess.org/).

## What we can and cannot do after an account leaves

| We can | We cannot |
| - | - |
| Tell you whether the account has left UAS | Take a payment for an account that has left, except to pass it on if the account was transferred to another servicer |
| Point you to the new holder's contact details | Change or settle what the new holder says you owe |
| Explain what your agreement says about default | Arrange a payment plan on an account we no longer service |

## Before it gets this far

If you are behind or about to be, call us before the account is far behind. The options we can
arrange are in [If you are having trouble paying](/getting-help/trouble-making-payments.md). After an
account leaves UAS, we can no longer arrange them.
